After night-club singer Jerry (Rita Hayworth) discovers her brother Chick (Edgar Edwards) is about to elope with gold digger Ruby Rose (Phyllis Claire), Ruby is killed and Chick is discovered with the body. He is convicted and sentenced to death, but a police detective (Charles Quigley) helps Jerry continue the investigation. She discovers Ruby was once the girlfriend of crooked night-club owner Milton Militis (Marc Lawrence) and takes a job at his club in order to find evidence. Milton finds out who she is and tries to kill her but she is saved by the detective.
This competent, routine B-thriller was the last of twelve quota quickies produced by Central Films in Victoria, British Columbia, and can be taken as typical of all of them. Set in the United States (as were five of the others), it used an American-based cast and crew (though several were British- or Canadian-born) and a few local actors.
