The Fight: Science Against Cancer
Format: 16mm Black & White
Runtime: 21 min
National Film Board of Canada
This important documentary from the National Film Board traces the growth and multiplication of a single fertilized cell into an adult man and explores why, after the body has reached maturity, some outlaw cells begin a persistent and subversive growth of their own. The actions of the cells are depicted through greatly magnified sequences that are brilliantly animated by Colin Low and Evelyn Lambart. The animation techniques they developed for this film were later used to great acclaim in Universe (1960).
The Fight: Science Against Cancer received wide distribution in both Canada and the United States, won a Special Award at the Canadian Film Awards and was nominated for an Academy Award® for Documentary Short Subject.
