The Challenge
All teams will be assigned a prop (provided), a "challenge" shot, and a line of dialogue that must be incorporated into the final film. Optional bonus items might be included. These elements will be revealed on February 14 at the check-in/launch at TIFF Bell Lightbox.
Registration Information
A team registers by purchasing one ticket online ("add to cart"), over the phone or in-person. The ticket price (ie. registration fee) is $40/team plus any applicable fees. Within 48 hours of purchase, the primary team contact will be emailed a registration form from nextwave@tiff.net
There is a capacity of 20 teams. Up to three registered filmmakers will act as the "Core Team". The Core Team can attend Saturday morning's TIFF Next Wave Talent Lab free of charge (registration required). While teams are represented by the Core Team of three registered filmmakers, any number of high-school-aged youth can act as cast and/or crew. Youth under 14 years of age and adults may be used as actors only.
Final Screening
Final films in the TIFF Next Wave 24-Hour Film Challenge will screen at 5:30pm, Sunday, February 17 - the closing day of the TIFF Next Wave Wave Film Festival. Following the screening, one team will be awarded the grand prize of $500, courtesy of RBC.

Screening and Judging Process
All films meeting the above Challenge criteria will be screened. A jury selected by TIFF, consisting of film industry professionals, will assess the finalists and select the competition winner based on originality, creativity, challenge criteria and overall proficiency in form. The jury's decisions are final and appeals will not be considered.
Additional Rules and Regulations
All elements of film creation must be done in the 24-hour period only, including but not limited to, writing, rehearsing, costume/set design, shooting, editing, sound work. The only work that may begin prior to the launch: organizing cast & crew, securing equipment, scouting/securing locations. All footage must be shot within the 24-hour time period of the project (no stock footage or footage created at any other time is permitted). Animation and special effects are permitted, but must be created during the 24-hour time. Only original music, creative commons music or music with documented granted permission can be used. Only films that abide by all the rules will be accepted for final screening.
Maximum runtime for the film must not exceed three minutes. Delivery of the final file must be in accordance with TIFF technical requirements (which will be emailed with the registration form upon ticket purchase).
Schedule of Events
Thursday, February 14, 5pm - 6:30pm: Check-in and launch
Friday, February 15, 5pm - 6:30pm: Participants must deliver their final file by 6pm (uploads must be complete by 6pm)
Sunday, February 17, 5:30pm: Final screening of TIFF Next Wave 24-Hour Film Challenge films. The $500 grand prize, courtesy of RBC, will be awarded following the screening.
General
The TIFF Next Wave 24-Hour Film Challenge is open to teams of filmmakers aged 14 to 18, comprised of between one and three official registered members (i.e. the Core Team). All participating filmmakers must be residents of Ontario. To enter, you must provide all information requested via the registration form, including parent/guardian permission where applicable. TIFF may also require each registrant (or a registrant's parent or guardian for registrant under 18 years of age) to sign a document confirming - among other things - consent to the registrant's participation in the TIFF Next Wave 24-Hour Film Challenge, releasing TIFF from any and all liability for injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with the competition.
TIFF reserves the right to make final determinations regarding issues not currently addressed in this document, and to withdraw, cancel, suspend or amend this competition in any way for any reason.
