Seeking to prevent his uncles from selling off his ailing grandmother's land, a young man from the countryside (Rodríguez) travels to Mexico City to enlist the help of his estranged mother (Teresa Sanchez), who works as a live-in maid for a wealthy couple. As mother and son struggle to become reacquainted, the social and geographic divisions between them seem to become even more unbridgeable, brilliantly echoed in the long tracking shots that separate them on the screen.
