This inventive new television film employs animation, puppetry and contemporary footage to shape Dickens' journalistic ruminations on London into an impressionistic biographical portrait.

The first screening in North America of this innovative collaboration between BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio Drama and Film London Artists' Moving Image Network (FLAMIN), supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. Dickens in London originated as a series of radio plays adapted by Michael Eaton from five of Dickens' journalistic essays, shaping Dickens' impressions of London into a biographical portrait. Film artist Chris Newby responded to the plays and, working in counterpoint to the audio, created this arresting, powerful and highly distinctive work that incorporates animation, puppetry and contemporary footage, accompanied by a new score by Neil Brand.
