Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis star as three misfit parapsychologists who go into business ridding New York City of assorted ghosts and ghouls and become media celebrities in the process.
"Ray, when someone asks you if you're a god, you say 'Yes'!" — Winston Zeddmore (Ernie Hudson)
When they are kicked out of their academic positions, misfit parapsychologists Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) and Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis), along with bemused ex-cop Winston Zeddmore (Ernie Hudson), go into business ridding New York City of assorted ghosts and ghouls and becoming media celebrities in the process. As business booms, however, the Ghostbusters begin to fear that a major supernatural event is in the offing — which might explain why Venkman's new girlfriend (Sigourney Weaver) is levitating off the bed and speaking in a deep bass voice about Gatekeepers, Keymasters, and something called "Zuul." Ivan Reitman's groundbreaking special-effects comedy features Bill Murray's signature performance and one of cinema's most memorable (and gooiest) monsters in the ten storey-tall Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man.
