Michael J. Fox is blasted back to the 1950s in this time-travelling comedy smash.
When skateboarding, puffy vest-wearing, rock n' roll-loving teenager Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) helps out wild-haired inventor Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) with his time-travelling DeLorean, he finds himself blasted back into the 1950s, where he meets his then-teenaged, hopelessly nerdy father (Crispin Glover) and becomes a romantic distraction to his hot-to-trot mother (Lea Thompson) — which could be a problem if he ever wants to be born. As he tries to bring his parents together and dodge town bully Biff (Thomas F. Wilson), Marty tracks down the fifties-era Doc Brown and concocts a desperate scheme to return himself to his own time. Along with Ghostbusters, Back to the Future set the template for the eighties special-effects comedy, spawning two sequels and launching Fox to big-screen stardom. "Back to the Future defies the laws of physics (and its own cracked view of the past). It's one of the rare big-budget entertainments that's improved with time" (Eric Henderson, Slant Magazine).
