Paranormal detective John Constantine (Keanu Reeves) battles his way through the demonic underbelly of Los Angeles in this special effects-laden supernatural extravaganza.
John Constantine (Keanu Reeves) has literally been to Hell and back: gifted (or cursed?) with the ability to see angels and demons, he returned from an adolescent suicide attempt which took him to the Great Underneath determined to redeem himself by helping others avoid a similar fate. Now working as an exorcist and paranormal detective in L.A., Constantine is hired by policewoman Angela Dodson (Rachel Weisz) to investigate the unusual circumstances surrounding her sister's apparent suicide. The evidence leads them on a journey through the city's supernatural underbelly and all the way back to Hell's gate. Based on the classic cult comic book Hellblazer, this special-effects laden supernatural extravaganza allowed Reeves to play a considerably darker and more sardonic character than his usual wide-eyed innocents or brash show-offs. Witness here as well the ominous sight of a pre-Transformers Shia LaBeouf: no movie about Hell is complete without him.
