Rodney Dangerfield, Chevy Chase and Bill Murray are part of the all-star comedy ensemble in this guffaw-inducing saga of lunacy on the links.
Conservative Bushwood Country Club has a new member: the brash, free-spending party machine Al Czervik (Rodney Dangerfield), who quickly offends the club's co-founder Judge Elihu Smails (Ted Knight). Caddy Danny Noonan (Michael O'Keefe) has his eyes on securing a college scholarship through the club, whether through gaining favour with the judge or teaming up with wealthy playboy Ty Webb (Chevy Chase). Meanwhile, a gopher is threatening to tunnel underneath every single green, leaving doofus groundskeeper Carl Spackler (Bill Murray) no choice but to break out the heavy artillery. Based (loosely, one suspects) on the real-life caddying experiences of writer-director Harold Ramis, Murray, and his invaluable second-banana brother Brian Doyle Murray, Caddyshack gives Dangerfield in his most prominent screen role, features Knight in fine foil form as the uptight Smails and Murray and Chase freewheeling through the wild proceedings with largely improvised moments of pure comic genius.
