Demy's contribution to the omnibus film The Seven Deadly Sins evokes his childhood memories of Nantes in its tale of the seductions of underage smoking.
Demy's contribution to the omnibus film The Seven Deadly Sins (which also included segments by Godard and Chabrol) is characteristically oriented towards his childhood memories of Nantes, specifically the market where Demy and his friends gathered to smoke. Through a series of free associations, Demy is led from that insignificant sin to the baroque visions of hell in Bosch's painting The Garden of Earthly Delights. (The cast includes a young Jean-Louis Trintignant, subject of a retrospective at the Cinematheque last season.)
