Pelin Esmer's documentary follows nine women living in a mountain village in southern Turkey who band together to write and perform a play based on their own life stories.
Pelin Esmer's documentary follows nine women living in Arslankoy, a mountain village in southern Turkey, who spend their days working hard in the fields, on construction sites, and in the home. At the instigation of a women's rights organization, and to lighten the burden of their lives, the women band together to write and perform a play based on their own life stories. Gathering at the local high school under the curious gazes of the village men, the women work tirelessly (and with much merriment) to create and produce their play, The Outcry of Women!, for their neighbours. Esmer attentively documents the various stages of the play's creation, and affectingly reveals the changes these women underwent during the process.
