The Genie Award-winning production designer discusses creating the surreal gameworld of Cronenberg's virtual-reality thriller.

- Carol Spier is a Canadian-born production designer best known for her longtime association with David Cronenberg, with whom she has made over 15 features, including Naked Lunch, The Fly, Videodrome, Eastern Promises and A Dangerous Method. Spier began her film career as a set dresser, set designer and property master on The Morning Suit before moving to Toronto, where she worked as an assistant art director on several feature films, inlcuding Norman Jewison's Agnes of God. She has worked with numerous directors in both film and television, including Guillermo del Toro (Mimic) and J.J. Abrams (television's Fringe), and has received both Genie and Gemini Awards, as well as awards from the Director's Guild of Canada, for Outstanding Achievement in Production Design.
