Noel Baker is a Toronto-based screenwriter and story editor. He began his career by penning the award-winning screenplay for the dark rock ‘n’ roll mockumentary, Hard Core Logo (directed by Bruce McDonald), and the rollicking memoir recounting the film’s making, Hard Core Roadshow (House of Anansi). His most recent screenwriting credit was for the Bollywood-style hockey comedy, Breakaway (starring Rob Lowe, Camilla Bell and Russell Peters). Baker co-created the Showcase/Oxygen Network comedy series Show Me Yours, and co-created (with Ken Finkleman) the CBC limited drama series At The Hotel. He recently wrote a historical MOW for CBC, The Mostly True Adventures of Sam Steele and currently has several feature scripts and television series concepts under option and at various stages of development. As a highly sought creative consultant, Baker has worked with writers and directors on many noted Canadian feature films, including Between Strangers (with Sophia Loren and Mira Sorvino), Deeply (with Lynn Redgrave and Kirsten Dunst), The Trotsky (with Jay Baruchel), and Blackbird (Claude Jutra Award winner). He’s taught screenwriting at the Canadian Film Centre since 1999, and mentored writers and run writing workshops at Praxis Centre for Screenwriters in Vancouver, the Atlantic Film Festival, the Canadian Screen Training Institute, and at York University, The University of Western Ontario, Willamette University in Oregon, and United Arab Emirates University in Al Ain, U.A.E.
