Case Studies: Networking Events with the Film Community

Screenwriting Intensive Conference

The Screenwriting Intensive program offers five Ontario-based, mid-career* screenwriters the chance to strengthen their storytelling skills through scriptwriting workshops, and mentorship, artistic, and professional development opportunities.

Each of the five selected screenwriters will be paired with a story editor; together they'll work to perfect their screenplays in Skype meetings over the course of seven weeks. During this time, story editors will provide invaluable advice on all aspects of the screenplay and help with any challenges the writers encounter.

On Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2, the story editors and screenwriters come together for a final review of their screenplays, and prepare for a live presentation in front of a jury and an industry audience on Saturday, June 22.

*Mid-career screenwriter: To apply, writers must have a script that is at least in its second draft and is ready to be reviewed with a story editor. Screenwriters must have written a minimum of one feature-length film or two short films.

Important note: The selected screenwriters need to be committed to write within the time frame of the program. All events will take place at TIFF Bell Lightbox.

OVERVIEW

Between Friday, May 10 and Friday, June 21, the screenwriters will hold up to four meetings with their mentors to prepare their screenplays. On Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2, screenwriters and story editors meet in person to finalize their screenplays and participate in workshops to discuss their process, share their feedback, and prepare for their pitch.
